1. 4.6 million Australians use at least one air conditioning system.
2. Reverse cycle air conditioning is the primary cooling system of 49% of Australian households.
3. 26% of Australian households do not use air conditioning for cooling, ranging from 48% of households in Tasmania to 4% of homes in the Northern Territory.
4. Air conditioner ownership in Australia has doubled since the late 1990s.
5. Most homes were not air conditioned in the 1930s but movie theatres were. During the hot summer months, customers went to the movies to escape the heat which prompted studios to release their biggest block busters during summer. Even today, the biggest movies are released on boxing day. 
6. New York based inventor Willis Carrier invented and patented air conditioning. 
7. Air conditioning is responsible for 10% of the world’s energy use.
8. It is estimated that there are 1.6 billion air conditioning units across the globe, a number expected to increase to 5 billion by 2050.
9. China has the most air conditioning systems globally, followed by the USA.
10. Standard air con settings are based on the body temperature of a 40-year-old, 70-kilogram male.
